You know when you are in pain. Most of the treatments outlined below are the first line of defense when treating pain. They don’t require a prescription and can usually be done at home. It is always best when you are experiencing pain to see your healthcare provider.
○ Rest – often an injury can be treated by resting the affected area
○ Anti-Inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen)--helps to reduce the inflammation of the muscles
○ Physical Therapy– your physician may prescribe therapy to stretch or strengthen the muscles supporting the affected area
○ Diet changes including Weight Loss–based upon your overall body composition, the physician may recommend nutritional changes to support weight loss and
remove extra strain on muscles
○ Exercise and/or stretching the affected area–similar to physical therapy stretching and exercise may be directed to support the muscles in the body.
○ Acupuncture, massage and spinal adjustment
○ Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a therapy that uses low voltage electrical current to provide pain relief. A TENS unit is a battery-powered device that delivers electrical impulses through electrodes placed on the surface of your skin. The theory is that the delivery of pain at the trigger points alleviates the pain and the mind becomes less focused on the pain.
○ Depending on the significance of the pain and the methods of treatment offered by your healthcare provider they may also offer Prescription Treatments including Opioid and Non Opioid drugs, Pain killers, muscle relaxers & anti-seizure drugs
